Emphasised text is a way of saying, „Hey, look at me, I‟m important!‟. As humans, when we read text that is bold, italic or underlined we know it is important. The same is true for search engines. Search engine „spiders‟ (programs responsible for indexing websites) detect these forms of emphasised text and make note of them. For this reason, it is important that targeted keywords appear in these formats on the page. It is not necessary that every instance of a keyword or keyphrase be emphasised. In fact keywords should also appear in standard text. It is only necessary to emphasise each keyword/keyphrase using these methods 2-3 times in the whole page.At this point you may be thinking, „good grief, how do I find that many instances of my keywords to do this?‟ Don‟t stress. You can actually get away with applying all three to one instance of text. That way, all you need is the keywords 2-3 times and it‟s done. Be careful though. Resist the temptation to use these formats on non-keyword text. For example: If you are offering a couple of bonuses with a purchase do not say „you will receive x and y‟. This is an unnecessary emphasis and should be avoided, as it will detract from the keywords that you want the search engines to notice. If you want to emphasize other text you can simply type it in CAPS. That way it stands out without being emphasized. Alternatively, you can use an html font command such as font size=
